Traditional Chinese Tuina Therapeutic Massage
What is Tuina ( 推拿 )?
Tuina is an effective form of Traditional Chinese massage therapy using deep tissue massage, stretching and acupressure techniques to help treat joint, muscle and back aches and pain; or sports or work related injuries.
The term TuiNa (pronounced “twee na”), refers to a wide range of Traditional Chinese medical therapeutic massage techniques to treat musculoskeletal aches and pains and promote general health of organs, energy flow and the endocrine system.
One of the consequences of the developments in science and technology today is that many people are required to spend lots of time using computers and/ or mobile phones. Use of computers and/or mobile phones means that people spend much time bending and peering at screens or balancing their phones in marvellously inventive ways on their shoulder.
Almost inevitably, long-term use of computers and phones leads to pain and stiffness of the neck and shoulder. This is exacerbated by poor blood circulation and obstruction of the meridians. According to traditional Chinese medical theory, obstruction often leads to pain.
Tuina or therapeutic massage helps relieve these symptoms.
Tuina works on the body's meridians and acupressure points. Tuina uses techniques such as pushing, rolling, pressing and grabbing to alleviate muscular pain; to promote blood circulation; to regulate the function of internal organs, and to build up the body's resistance.
Tuina can also relax tense back and shoulder muscles and assist the body to cope with stress.
